Love to anyone going through a hard time. Remember no matter how bleak it seems, you have control over your thoughts. Keep them positive. Find positive affirmations that work for you, and say them over and over to yourself, minute by minute, hour by hour. Even if it feels silly or useless, keep it going. Make it your #1 priority. The ones that maybe are most effective is when we’re not asking for anything for self, but more in the line of being a vehicle for love for all around us. The irony is often the things we selfishly want actually come in that roundabout way when we’re not directly looking for them.

In my bleakest moments, the following often pulls me out. And I get to taste little moments of being in that feeling of something bigger. It’s a gentle feeling of bliss and warmth, where any personal desires I have pale and lose power when basking in that light.

Whether atheist or agnostic or whatever you identify as, Francis of Assisi was someone who saw God in everything – all animals, insects, trees, stones, et al. When you identify and feel compassion for even the smallest creatures around you, it opens up something deep inside.

His prayer – a meditation, really – an affirmation, may be used regardless of any belief or non-belief. It changes the onus, and often turns our thinking upside down.

If in a hard time, just making positive affirmations – working them like your life depends on it, minute by minute, hour by hour – and telling the negative thoughts they can take a vacation for a few days and get back to you later … even if it seems silly and futile, this can change your inner universe more quickly than you might even believe right now.

Here’s that mediation as an example. If it works to change Lord to “Universe” or “Goddess” or “Transcendence,” etc., whatever works … Tons of love to you if in any pain. And tons if you’re in joy, too

Remember there is an intelligence working outside your thoughts all the time. It’s pumping your blood. It’s digesting your food. It’s keeping you breathing. Our mind is often like a little box – a dark room – limited by our limiting thoughts on things. Open up to the bigger intelligence happening right inside and around you. Much love.

Francis of Assisi:

“Lord, make me an instrument of your peace …

Where there is hatred, … let me sow Love

Where there is injury, … Pardon

Where there is doubt, … Faith

Where there is despair, … Hope

Where there is darkness, … Light

And, where there is sadness, … Joy

O divine master grant that I
may not so much seek to be consoled … as to Console

to be understood … as to Understand

To be loved … as to Love

For it is in giving that we receive

it is in pardoning that we are pardoned

And it’s in dying that we are born to eternal life.”
