When somebody acts out toward you with a rash word or action, a hundred intellectual theories could probably be written as to why. Some of them might even hint at the inner world beneath the action. But, love penetrates where limited perception can’t.
I fail over and over and over again.
But, when I succeed, the inner chains loosen and some lightness results. In that way when we react strongly to someone, then another whispers to us they are mentally or physically ill … and we immediately change course, and instantly lose any feeling that we have been personally insulted – “Oh! I’m so sorry! I didn’t know!” – perhaps, in a way, we should give anyone we meet that same break. It frees us of taking it personally, and it reminds us that we have no idea the pain another is carrying.
When I am reminded of saddening stories of death and loss, it occurs to me I might, on any given day, be interacting with a loved one connected to such an event. When freed from taking anything personally, it lets that simple gesture of love cut through to places the intellect can never seem to reach. Anyway, I love you!
